I think what most people call doom is actually sludge metal, when I think of 'Doom', I think of the likes of Trouble, Candlemass, Saint Vitus, Cathedral etc. Obviously a bit of a crossover happened when bands like Sleep and Electric Wizard incorporated elements of sludge into their sound, but I think most doom fans have forgotten the roots of the genre a little bit and think sludge=doom.
