Dec 29, 2015 · The characters in “Anomalisa” unsettle. Their plight makes you think about 21st century loneliness, despair and alienation— subjects that would be unpalatable if Kaufman didn’t write his characters so compassionately and with such dry humor.
Anomalisa is essentially the movie Charlie Kaufman's character in Adapation wanted to make before Robert McKee yelled at him about how stupid his idea sounds; everything is mundane, nothing changes, everyone is a disappointment, life goes on.

As previously noted, the trailer is edited in such a way that Anomalisa is touted as a life-affirming, uplifting tale of finding a person to complete one’s self. Of course, the trailer never mentions Michael’s delusions, or the fact that the ultimate attempt at romantic fulfillment, marriage, is a colossal disappointment for the melancholy writer. ...
