I watch a person named Helen Anderson from the UK and she has 500,000 subscribers approx and makes a living off her youtube. Which sounds like a lot of subs, BUT her views don’t really represent that. She’s talked a lot in recent years about falling views. But she still makes enough from youtube to have a living.
And because of that, YT will rank your videos lower because people don't watch the full thing. I'd recommend start with 5-8 minute videos and make five of them in the same time period you made the 40-minute video.

For me, I started 9 years ago at around 12k subs within 4 months of being partnered. I’d say 100k subs is a solid reassurance though. I have 3 100k+ channels & each of them “make a living.”. You will hit high months when your a smaller channel though.
