Nov 10, 2021 · The Elam School of Fine Arts amalgamated with Auckland University College in 1950, bringing with it a small collection of art books. From these beginnings the Fine Arts Library has developed into the well-funded and reputable arts library that exists today.
Programme overview. Artists are storytellers, change-makers, disruptors and creators who shape our culture and enrich our society. At Elam, you will develop skills in creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and entrepreneurship.
The Elam School of Fine Arts, founded by John Edward Elam, is part of the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries at the University of Auckland. It offered the first Bachelor of Fine Arts programme in New Zealand starting in 1967.
Since 1950, when the school became a special school of the University of Auckland, courses have been available for the Diploma in Fine Arts in either painting, sculpture, or design. Classes are also available for students studying the Preliminary Diploma in Fine Arts and part-time subjects.
