Oct 5, 2024 · Friendship can be earned with Pelican Town's villagers. As friendships deepen, the villagers' dialogue lines become more friendly, cut-scenes called heart events occur, villagers are more likely to send gifts in the mail, and marriage is possible with one of the datable villagers.
Friendship 101 is a power book that can be obtained as the 9th prize from the prize machine inside the Mayor's Manor. It can also be purchased from the Bookseller for 20,000g starting in Year 3 (≈9% chance to appear). The first reading grants the player a power that increases any friendship gained by 10%.

With high enough friendship, Linus can sometimes save you when you pass out in the mines. IIRC there is little to no loss of inventory if he helps you, as well as bypassing the 1,000g hospital fine.

Ignoring them has very little impact per day, and once you're at maxed friendship [for the current circumstance] the decay stops. The only exception is your spouse (and probably Krobus as well if it moves in), who will always have friendship decay.
