- Normal hours: A career in traditional hospital bedside nursing means your job is open 24/7 365 days a year. That means that by definition, there is always a possibility you might be working at any hour of the day.

When you first train as a nurse, you'll need to study for one of the four fields of nursing - mental health, learning disabilities, children's or adult nursing. A small number of universities run ‘dual field' nursing degrees, in which you can combine two of the fields during a four-year degree.
