An archipelago (/ ˌɑːrkəˈpɛləɡoʊ / ⓘ AR-kə-PEL-ə-goh), [1] sometimes called an island group or island chain, is a chain, cluster, or collection of islands, or sometimes a sea containing a small number of scattered islands.
