In the past three years, US Chess has authorized new tournaments and prizes restricted to seniors. However, women ages 50 and older have not been affected. That may change in March 2019, when US Chess begins grant applications for women’s chess programs.

The qualifying years for the two FIDE age groups in 2024 are 1959 (for 65+ events) and 1974 (for 50+) but some German senior organisers often say 60+ for men and sometimes 50+ or 55+ for women. The eligibility dates will change on 1 January 2025 as our Seniors introduction page explains.
