Mar 25, 2020 · Why stay in an ordinary hotel when you can stay in a historic Chicago gem? Step into the lobbies of any of these history-filled hotels and you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back in time. Here are five of my favorite historic Chicago hotels.
- JW Marriott Chicago. The Loop, Chicago, Illinois, United States. Opened in late 2010, this upscale hotel is housed in a historic neoclassical-style building with crystal chandeliers and a grand staircase in the lobby.
- Palmer House A Hilton Hotel. The Loop, Chicago, Illinois, United States. The original historic Palmer House Hotel was built by businessman Potter Palmer as a gift for his bride Bertha in 1871.
- Millennium Knickerbocker Chicago. Gold Coast, Chicago, Illinois, United States. The Knickerbocker has gone through several incarnations since it opened in 1927; legend has it that in the 1930s the hotel housed a casino frequented by Al Capone.
- InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile. Magnificent Mile, Chicago, Illinois, United States. Originally built in 1929 to house the exclusive Medinah Athletics Club, the building sank into oblivion after closing its doors in 1934 due to the stock-market crash.
