Complete order of Forgotten Realms books in Publication Order and Chronological Order.
The best approach is probably one that mixes publishing order but groups things by series, as follows. I'd mix in the stand-alones and the various thematic series (The Harpers, The Nobles etc) in publishing order, since they don't have strong story connections to one another.
While re-reading some of the Drizzt books I decided it might be fun to read most of the Realms books in chronological order according to the wiki. I started at an arbitrary point where I would start after The Halfling's Gem. It's gone great so far until I reached 1358 AKA The Time of Troubles.
