Dec 5, 2022 · At a Glance. In this post, we're sharing ideas for activities for autistic adults to do at home and in the community. For many autistic adults, finding activities that check all the boxes of fun, fulfilling, and providing a safe and comfortable environment can be a tricky one.
- Music Classes. Music is a broad medium that surpasses all abilities and disabilities. And considering that sound, or, in this case, music, is a primary human response, many autistic adults have a positive reaction to it.
- Dance Classes. The aim of each dance is to raise awareness of body movement so that you can communicate through that movement. Note that the only universal language is the one transmitted through our bodies and moving patterns.
- Arts and Crafts. A great tool for nonverbal expression is art. Painting, drawing, building, assembling, sculpting, and writing are therapeutic, calming, and, most of all, fun.
- Outdoor Activities/Sports. You don’t have to go to fancy gyms or sports halls; a simple walk in the park or the neighborhood can also do wonders for adults.
There's plenty of work to do on a farm: taking horses out to the field; grooming animals; cleaning stables; collecting eggs; filling hay nets; feeding chickens; tending to the sheep and goats; fixing fencing; painting walls and so much more. We're always busy, no matter the weather. We’re open all year, even in winter!
- Camp Mohawk, Berkshire. Camp Mohawk is a summer camp and day centre built and run especially for autistic and disabled children and young people. Set in lush countryside, Camp Mohawk has a swimming pool, sensory garden, games field, soft play area, sensory room and activities tailored to children’s need.
- Birdworld, Surrey. A favourite with pupils from TreeHouse School, Birdworld is a haven for animal lovers from all over! The zoo and adjoining farm have all sorts of birds; from parrots, owls, budgies, flamingos, toucans and the star attractions of the zoo - their penguins!
- Golders Hill Park, Golders Green, London. This blogger’s childhood park is a charming corner of North London and will delight visitors of all ages. It features a stunning, big plain to run and play undisturbed, a big child’s play area with lots of sensory play involved.
- Legoland, Windsor. Theme parks in general are noisy and overwhelming but Legoland, situated in the middle of leafy Windsor, is different. Based on the super popular and well-loved toy, Legoland has many child friendly rides that are a bit calmer than the usual thrill rides you find at other theme parks.

Participating in activities can positively impact individuals, with autism by aiding in their growth, social interaction and happiness. Engaging in hobbies and interests can enhance skills and overall well being for adults, on the autism spectrum.
