May 1, 2021 · Don't turn it on its back, as that might well do permanent internal damage to the ray. Simply put your hand/fingers in the mouth and draw it up onto the wet sand, lift the snout while fingers are in the mouth then unhook. Be cautious of the stinger on the tail, if it is flapping about too much for comfort while unhooking, throw a towel over the ...
Nov 25, 2017 · 551. Posted December 25, 2017. Strings strings string, the cheapest but one of the most important parts of your rig, I currently use Rotosound Jazz 77 flats on my Jazz basses and they are the “bomb”. Ever so slightly textured so you don’t get that horrible sticky feeling after an hour of playing, and sound awesome too.
- Rays and skates are flattened fish closely related to sharks. All belong to a group of fish called Elasmobranchs.
- These guys are pretty unique as they have no bones in their body – their skeleton is made up of flexible cartilage (the bendy stuff that your ears and nose are made from!).
- Although they look near identical, rays and skates are actually different. Stingrays are ovoviviparous, meaning the young are hatched from eggs that are held within the body, whereas skates are oviparous, meaning they lay eggs – these eggs are protected by a hard, rectangular case often called a “mermaid”s purse“!
- There are many different types of ray including stingrays, electric rays, butterfly rays, round rays, manta rays, guitarfish and sawfish.

Rays are bycatch so I try to get rid of them quickly which can be difficult as my setup is very hard to break even though my lines are light by UK standards. 20lb braid with a pr knot joining to my mono leader allows me to fish 20lb line to its maximum.
In most cases, when the sting enters a person's body, the pressure causes the protective sheath to tear. When the sheath tears, the sharp, serrated edges of the spine sink in and venom flows into the wound. A stingray's venom is not necessarily fatal, but it hurts a lot. It's composed of the enzymes 5-nucleotidase and phosphodiesterase and ...
Jan 9, 2012 · Use a leader and the surf to handle them. Make a hook remover which is 10mm stainless round bar 800mm long, with a T-handle and a 5mm chain shackle welded to the end. Cut a 5mm slot in the chain. You can then fit the gap in the shackle over the hook and and manouver to remove the hook. Try to use circles as much as possible.

Interestingly, the presence of venomous barbs does not solely define a stingray’s interactions with its environment. These creatures are generally docile and prefer to rely on their stealth and camouflage to avoid confrontation. The venomous barbs are typically a last resort, activated only when the stingray feels threatened or cornered.
