Incredibly scenic route to take coming up from Cody to Cooke City and the northeast gate you Yellowstone. This can easily be combined with the Beartooth Highway during the summer and early fall for a complete loop through Red Lodge too. There are several viewpoints along the way, with hiking and camping locations too.

Dec 14, 2023 · Chief Joseph Pass shines as a winter destination and that is arguably the best time to visit. While the Continental Divide Trail does pass through Chief Joseph Pass, there isn't much in the way of scenery near the pass as most of the trails are in dense coniferous forest.
Chief Joseph Scenic Highway, also known as Sunlight Basin Road, is an often missed yet unforgettable alternative to Beartooth Highway. It connects Cody, Wyoming with Cooke City and the northeast entrance to Yellowstone Park.
