THE MAIN PLOT. The plot is a gradual unfolding of a succession of events divided by intervals of time. John Trenchard, a fifteen year old orphan lad, lives with his maiden aunt, Miss Jane Arnold, in Moonfleet, a rundown tiny fishing village.
