Werner Diermaier (also known as Werner "Zappi" Diermaier) (born 1949) [1] is a German drummer, best known as one of the founding members of the German krautrock band, Faust. Diermaier has remained with Faust for its entire lifespan and appears on all of their over 30 albums.
One constant was founding member and drummer Werner "Zappi" Diermaier who has been the only one in the band to appear on all of the original albums and all of the later reunions. We managed to interrogate Zappi by email to explain the band's early history, classic albums, confusing reunions and strange projects that are distinctly 'Faust.'

After being absent from the band for 49 years, core member Gunther Wusthoff reunited with Werner "Zappi" Diermaier to play on the new 2022 Faust album, Daumenbruch. Pèron though is not present on the album as a musician.
