Sep 21, 2023 · In Mark 5:9, Jesus demanded the demon’s name, and it replied, “My name is Legion, . . . for we are many.”. Legion, then, was not a solitary demon but was revealed to be a collective. The revelation potentially sheds light on why the possessed man was heavily tormented and had great strength.

In this verse, most of the attention is usually placed on the name of the demon: Legion. In the Roman army, a legion was a unit of soldiers. At the time of Augustus, this included 6100 foot soldiers and 726 horsemen.
