- Beauty and the Beast. This is my favorite princess movie. The music is wonderful. The story is simple yet captivating. In a film with a beast that literally imprisons the heroine, the true villain is shown to be this man oozing machismo who could be the poster boy for toxic masculinity.
- The Little Mermaid. The film that kicked off the Disney Renaissance and a tried and true formula for box office success. After a string of films that didn’t quite set the world on fire, this film showed how a princess movie could be done and done right in a way that still appeals today.
- Cinderella. Of the pre-Renaissance days, I believe this is the ultimate princess movie. She wasn’t born a princess, but with a little help from her fairy godmother, she’s able to charm the prince.
- The Princess and the Frog. The film that kicked off the Disney Revival, “The Princess and the Frog” gives a unique look at the struggles in 1920s New Orleans.
