LOCATION HIGHLIGHTS. IMPROVEMENTS: Provide new asphalt paving, new median barrier and new lighting. CONSTRUCTION: Construction work to be performed in seven stages. There will be temporary lane width reductions within the seven stages. Work to begin on or about October 12, 2020.
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is undertaking a significant construction project to improve the Garden State Parkway from Milepost 140 to 143. These improvements include: repairs and upgrades to bridge structures; new lighting; new median barriers; and new asphalt paving.
Bridge lifts are scheduled for Wednesdays & Saturdays, starting at Lake Shore Drive bridge. Wednesday lifts begin at 0930 and Saturday lifts at 0900. Bridge lifts are subject to boat traffic.
Description: The Garden State Parkway Bridge over the Passaic River, US Route 46, and River Drive is being widened to provide full-width lanes and adequate shoulders. This project is intended to extend the remaining life of the structure and improve safety. Schedule: Construction began in 2021 and is scheduled to be completed in 2026.

The Garden State Parkway implemented “One-Way Tolling” at Interchange 145. The northbound GSP exit toll at Interchange 145 has been eliminated and the entrance toll has increased.
