Director Bryan Singer and writer Christopher McQuarrie often made World War II films in their backyards while growing up in New Jersey, and Singer later dealt with Nazi subject matter in Apt Pupil and X-Men. Filming
Filming began on July 18, 2007 in Berlin. Production of Valkyrie was then estimated to have a budget of US$80 million, with two-thirds to be spent in Germany. Visual effects
