The English Electric Lightning, later known as the BAC Lightning, was a powerful and iconic aircraft of the Cold War era. Serving as the United Kingdom’s first and only all-British supersonic interceptor, the Lightning earned a reputation for its exceptional performance, agility, and armament.
The BAC Lighting F MK 6 was the last variant of the lightning, base don the F3, this was the last single seat fighter and served the |Royal Air Force for 20 years. First Flown on 17th April 1964, and a total of 55 F6 saw service with the Royal Air Force, and the last Lightning F6 was produced in August 1967.
The epitome of British fighter design - short on fuel but immensely powerful and manoeuvrable and with more character than any of its contemporaries - the Lightning was the first, and last, all-British supersonic fighter.
