The best known film to be made from her source was An Awfully Big Adventure, showing a catty side to Hugh Grant, but some fifteen years before that was Sweet William, for which she penned the script. It wasn't a huge hit, and there was a sense you'd be better off reading the book to get the benefit of her prose, but it wasn't a disaster either ...
