Walter Stone Tevis Jr. (February 28, 1928 [4] – August 9, 1984 [5]) was an American novelist and screenwriter. Three of his six novels were adapted into major films: The Hustler, The Color of Money and The Man Who Fell to Earth.
Walter Tevis was born in San Francisco in 1928 and lived in the Sunset District, close to Golden Gate Park and the sea, for the first ten years of his life. He remained immensely proud of being born in that city.
