Sep 24, 2024 · The drive-in movie theater is an endangered art form in Indianapolis. More than two dozen drive-ins once existed in the area, but now only one remains. Between March and late October, people from all around the city and beyond travel to the Tibbs Drive-In Theatre on the west side for a unique movie-watching experience under the stars.

Jul 30, 2020 · The Westlake Drive-in was opened in the summer of 1950 near West 10th Street and I-465 on Indianapolis’ west side. Guests visiting the drive-in could see a double feature cost just 55 cents. First-rate movies changed three times a week at the 1,100 space theater.

Aug 24, 2020 · The Westlake Drive-in on the west side of Indianapolis, one of the state's most popular venues for outdoor movies, typically was jammed with more than 1,200 cars per night, according to a retrospective story on WRTV-Channel 6. In contrast, only 75 vehicles were counted at the Westlake when it closed in 1982.
