Oct 24, 2023 · Vascular dementia doesnt follow one particular path - it is very very variable depending on which part of the brain has been affected. @jay6 - it definitely sounds to me that the area of the brain which has been affected in your OH is the frontal lobes, which gives changes to emotional control, decision making and the personality.
Nov 1, 2024 · I looked after my dad who suffered a stroke 13 years ago. He then went onto get vascular dementia 6 years ago. Over the past 6 years there has been good times, but alot of challanging times with different behavours etc. Anyway tried to keep dad at home as long as we possibly could. Made the decision few months back to place dad into a care home.
Mar 21, 2014 · This is actually quite common in the late stages of dementia or the last stages of life. There is a bit of a vicious circle that develops. The person reduces their intake of food and fluids. This in turn causes the body to react by conserving energy and so the person becomes more immobile and likely to sleep.

She seems to be deteriorating quite quickly and is in a constant state of anxiety and cry’s all the time, she has suddenly seems to have lost her balance and sleeps 15 hours or more a day.

Before it became generic it was called Aricept, try that too. Opinion varies, I had my say a week or two back, seems to work for some.

She appeared to be slowly recovering from her stroke until a series of UTIs ended in a seizure about two and a half years after the stroke.

Dec 10, 2015 · I've kind of concluded that is what is happening. Afterall that is what Vascular Dementia is - dementia caused by the reduction of blood flow in the brain due to various reasons. In her case, TIA's. So, the little blood vessels in her brain are shutting down - closing - being damaged due to these TIA's, so things are happening.
