The incorporation of database construction with verbal and multimedia elaboration not only builds the macroscopic frames of popular musical genres, but also highlights the ambiguity and inconsistency in regard to individual cases.

    • Rock. The Beatles are largely considered the most popular rock band of all time. And while there are many songs we could choose from, for this list, we chose the highly recognizable and guitar heavy “Day Tripper.”
    • Jazz. At the core of genres like blues and rock, you will find jazz. Jazz often features complex chord progressions, sophisticated harmonies, and skilled improvisation.
    • Hip Hop / Rap. One of the most popular hip-hop acts of all-time is the ubiquitous Snoop Dogg. And for this list, we’ve chosen to highlight “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” which happens to feature another popular hip-hop artist, Pharrell Williams.
    • Pop. Pop isn’t a genre per se, though it is often thought of that way. Pop is just what’s popular right now. In the 60s, rock and psychedelia were all the rage.
    • Pop. Pop music is perhaps the most obvious addition to this list. It could be said that pop is a compilation of other genres, which are considered to be mainstream in a certain time period.
    • Rock. One of the top musical genres in existence, rock music originated in the 1940s and 50s in the form of rock & roll. However, its roots can be traced back to the rhythm and blues of the African-American culture in the 1920s, merged with country music.
    • Hip-Hop & Rap. In its relatively short history, hip-hop has emerged as one of the most popular and innovative genres of music. Hip-hop originated in the Bronx, a borough of New York City, in the late 1970s when DJs would use samples and breakbeats to create backing tracks for MCs to rap over.
    • Country. Country music can be traced back to the beginning of the twentieth century. It was created mainly in the south of the USA, by working-class people.
