Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova [a] [b] (born 6 March 1937) is a Russian engineer, member of the State Duma, and former Soviet cosmonaut. She was the first woman in space, having flown a solo mission on Vostok 6 on 16 June 1963.
Valentina Tereshkova (born March 6, 1937, Maslennikovo, Russia, U.S.S.R.) is a Soviet cosmonaut and the first woman to travel into space. On June 16, 1963, she was launched in the spacecraft Vostok 6, which completed 48 orbits in 71 hours.
