  1. Jan 23, 2014 · The Pueblo, a specialized U.S. Navy intelligence collection ship, was alone and virtually unarmed. The Pueblo was engaged in a mission to record communications and electronic emissions from North Korea. The ship had little recourse but to surrender when confronted by the North Korean warships.

  2. At the time of her seizure, the Pueblo, an electronic surveillance ship, was trying to pinpoint the location of military radar and radio stations along North Korea’s rugged east coast. The 176-foot vessel was alone, with no U.S. combat jets or ships to protect her.

  3. An American surveillance ship, the USS Pueblo, was captured by North Korea in the Sea of Japan on January 23, 1968. Believing that he lacked the necessary defensive equipment, Capt. Lloyd M. Bucher surrendered the ship after one crew member was killed and ten were wounded.
