- Here’s what to do: Pour 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar down the toilet drain. When the vinegar and baking soda combine, the natural chemical reaction will bubble up and loosen the clog. After about 30 minutes, follow up with some hot water and see if it drains. If it does, you’re good to go. If it doesn’t, repeat the process once more.

Pour your mixture of vinegar and water down the toilet bowl and close the lid. When the hot vinegar solution hits the baking powder, it causes a reaction that creates lots of foam that can help to dislodge toilet blockages. After 30 minutes, flush the toilet and you’re done!
Aug 17, 2023 · If you clog a toilet, but don't have a plunger (or a chemical drain cleaner), don't fret—here are seven expert-approved ways to unclog a toilet without a plunger (or a cleaner). From using a plastic water bottle to a wire hanger, these are the clever DIY fixes that will get the job done.
Mix a cup of baking soda and vinegar with hot water and pour the solution into the drain’s opening. Clean it after some hours and see whether it worked or not. The wire coat hanger is another effective remedy to unblock small drains.
- Hot water. It may be possible to remove some blockages using hot water. First, turn off the water supply to your toilet to stop the cistern refilling. Then, wearing rubber gloves, remove as much of the stagnant water as you can and place it in a bucket.
- Plunger. First, take your plunger and cover the outlet hole at the bottom of the toilet bowl. If you’re not able to create a tight seal with the plunger, use old rags to plug any gaps.
- Baking soda. Pour half a cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl. Then, heat 2-3 litres of water in a saucepan. Before the water boils, add half a cup of white vinegar to the pan.
- Toilet auger. If you’ve tried the above methods and you still can’t shift the blockage, you could try a toilet auger. Toilet augers are flexible tools that can be pushed into the toilet to remove the blockage.
Oct 22, 2024 · Unclogging a toilet with a plunger is faster and more effective than with baking soda and vinegar. A plunger applies great pressure to the clog, forcing the clog down the line. The pressure works in reverse, too, pulling up clogs that won't go down. If you have a toilet plunger, use that.
Pour the water and vinegar toilet unblocker mixture into the toilet before closing the lid. The water and vinegar and baking soda will interact with each other to create a foam substance in the toilet. After 30 minutes return to the toilet and flush to see if the blockage has been cleared.
