The homeland of the Yolngu people is the Arafura Swamp of north-central Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory.
Twelve Canoes is a documentary follow-up to his Un Certain Regard winning feature, Ten Canoes. He co-directs with Molly Reynolds, but both are really acting as a conduit here for the Yolngu to tell their own tales.
