Initially an all-boys school, Gilmour welcomed its first students in the fall of 1946 and graduated its first class in 1950. At the time, classes were conducted primarily in Tudor House, with additional space established in the property’s remaining farm outbuildings.
In 1944, the Brothers of the Holy Cross purchased the 33-acre estate to establish the private boys' Catholic School GILMOUR ACADEMY. The 14-room gatehouse was converted into dorms. The Tudor home housed the school’s library, classrooms, and dining hall.

Oct 3, 2022 · Last month, the Howley Foundation announced a $28 million commitment to Gilmour Academy, the largest donation the foundation has made to the school in nearly 20 years of giving. The gift will fund renovations to the Commons and the Tudor House, as well as provide scholarships for 48 students each year.
