   Feb 23, 2004 · An impressive Machine, but (from what I've heard) an engine which needs regular TLC. I don't think Honda could afford to make such high quality bikes today, would be too expensive. And yes, they are a good investment, probably better return than any bloody pension!

   Jan 1, 2015 · I bought mine to practice some cross training to make myself a better enduro rider. And for that, the Reflex has been working great. It's got the same 200cc Honda engine that's been in a ton of bikes/quads/ATCs over a lot of years and is very reliable with great parts availability.

   Oct 14, 2010 · I compete in vintage trials on an essentially bone stock 86 TLR200 and I can tell you the bike is very competitive stock in the beginner and even intermediate classes. Strip the lights off, put on some sticky tires, a 9 tooth countershaft sprocket and you're pretty much good to go.

   • It isn't a serious trials bike, it isn't a serious trail bike. It's just a plain simple *fun* bike. And its engien is basically an XR200, so it is about as stone-cold reliable as you can get! I just picked up a 86 Honda TLR 200 this weekend- great fun.

   What is a good TLR200?

   • TLR200E, made from 83 to 85, Red/White/Blue, sold in Japan (not sure if ever officially imported to UK) They had gold anodised alloy rims, with decent forks. Rectangular headlamp unit. TLR200Reflex, made from 86 to 87 (I think) for the american market. Mainly White with dark blue/red 'flashes' down tank and sidepanels.

   Should I buy a tlr250r or a 200 hp bike?

   • Great bike, but 200 is more of a plodder for green lanes. Only about 12 hp so don't expect too much. Spares for 200 is a bit hit and miss, Dave Silver should get most consumables. Other options? Serow or Beta Alp, though I've ridden neither. Cheers TLPaul. Na, the more i looked into the TLR250R the more i went off of it.

   What's the difference between a Honda TLR 200 & 250?

   • Honda TLR 200. A new Cotton carburettor fitted to replace the worn standard unit worked very well. In both test machines the headstock is standard but the footrests have been lowered into identical positions. The 250 has a trials-developed gearbox, with the first three ratios much closer together than the 200.

   Is the TLR a good bike?

   • First off, the TLR wasn't designed to be a competition trials bike. For what you are describing, it's a great bike. Fully street legal. Stock gearing wilbe fine for trail riding and plunking along at trailriding speed. Seating postion isn't too bad, but the seat is small and not well padded. We have two of them, one's mine and one's my brothers.
