I thought they were different bodies, but I've just done a search and the Trustatrader site seems to have my local council's Trading Standards in their web address.

Hi all, the BBC has recently done an investigation piece where they approached several 'Trusted Trader' websites to see if they could get a fake handyman approved. They managed to get onto Rated People and MyBuilder without any checks at all.
Nov 30, 2018 · TrustAtrader is an advertising platform, they check that the registered traders have the qualifications and that they are insured as required, but they cannot know if a person is honest, there are several companies like TrustAtrader, and they will do almost anything to keep their members, this is a business made for profit.

I did find a plasterer on Checkatrade once to fix a collapsing section of a ceiling. Was happy with the work - you could only tell the bit he'd done because it was better than the rest.
One of the builders has come in £20,000 cheaper, but he has excellent client references on Trust A Trader and upon meeting him, I got the general feeling that he was competent. This weekend I am going to see a couple of his jobs, followed by him coming to see me a second time to discuss the job in more detail.

I am taking a trader to court from Trustatrader however I am unlikely to get my money as the creep says he is now not working as he relied on Trustatrader which he is not on anymore. This mans work could have killed me. However Trustatrader's mediation has been abysmal, it has been a farce.
