Dangerous Crossing is a 1953 American mystery film starring Jeanne Crain and Michael Rennie and directed by Joseph M. Newman. Based on the 1943 play Cabin B-13 by John Dickson Carr, the story revolves around a false pretense marriage covering for a murder plot aboard a transatlantic ocean liner.
Dangerous Crossing blends two hoary plot lines: the one where somebody suddenly disappears and whose very existence comes into question; and the one where a young woman marries a stranger about whom, to later chagrin, she knows absolutely nothing.
Set entirely on a cruise ship, Joseph M. Newman’s Dangerous Crossing features a relentlessly nautical ambience complete with a constant foghorn and a soupy fog that allows for a wide variety of beautiful entrances and exits. Jeanne Crain plays newlywed Ruth Stanton, whose new husband vanishes minutes after boarding their honeymoon cruise.
