Jan 15, 2022 · Township Clerk and Historian Mark Mutter has spearheaded a unique township flag campaign, designing a township-colored flag that flies on Toms River's Town Hall flagpole everyday below the American and Prisoners of War Flags.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township had a total area of 52.89 square miles (136.98 km 2), including 40.55 square miles (105.03 km 2) of land and 12.34 square miles (31.95 km 2) of water (23.32%). [2][3] Toms River is 70 miles (110 km) south of Manhattan and 55 miles (89 km) east of Philadelphia.

The river rises in the Pine Barrens of northern Ocean County, then flows southeast and east, where it is fed by several tributaries, and flows in a meandering course through wetlands.
