Florence and the Machine (stylised as Florence + the Machine) are an English indie rock band formed in London in 2007 by lead vocalist Florence Welch, keyboardist Isabella Summers, guitarist Rob Ackroyd, drummer Christopher Lloyd Hayden & harpist Tom Monger. The band has consisted a number of other musicians.
Born in Ipswich in 1975, Tom Monger spent his very earliest years surrounded by traditional Celtic music, travelling to numerous festivals and folk events with his musician parents. He took up the harp at the age of six, playing a clarsach built for him by his grandfather, John Morgan.
Years of experience: 6+ years. I began playing the harp at the age of 6. I studied Composition and Harp at Trinity College Of Music, London, graduating in 1998. Since 2008 I have been performing as part of Florence and the Machine, featuring prominently on the UK number one albums "Lungs" and "Ceremonials".
He joined the West Suffolk Youth Orchestra when he was nine years old. He studied Harp and Composition at Trinity College of Music and graduated in 1998. He released his first solo album Mothmusic Volume One in 2000. He joined Florence + The Machine in 2007.
The Machine is Florence's backing band. This is currently made up of Robert Ackroyd (guitar), Christopher Lloyd Hayden (drums), Isabella Summers ('Isabella Machine') (keyboards) and Tom Monger (harp). [5] Previously Devonte Hynes (Lightspeed Champion and Test Icicles) was also a member. Florence and the Machine are managed by Mairead Nash.
