Sep 1, 2011 · The Bridge Castle in Thurles is situated on the banks of the river Suir. This medieval castle dates back to 1453 during the Norman period in Irish history. It is strategically located on the east side of Thurles and still dominates the town’s skyline today.
Castles of Munster: Bridge Castle -Thurles, Tipperary Indicated incorrectly on the modern OS map, the second tower in the town is at the east end of Liberty Square beside the River Suir. It is said to have been built in 1453, and formerly adjoined the old east gate of the town.
Castles of Munster: Black Castle -Thurles, Tipperary. Nothing remains here of the town walls that once enclosed the town, or of the manorial complex known as Durlas Castle, and the later Croak Castle at the west end of town.
