On October 13th, 2021, it was announced that You was renewed for a fourth season. On March 22, 2022, the official You Twitter account confirmed that production had began in London, and was expected to run through July 2022. Filming officially ended on August 26, 2022.
Along with the announcement of the season, Penn Badgley was confirmed to return for Season 4. On February 17, 2022, it was announced that Lukas Gage had joined the cast as a series regular, playing the character Adam. Later, on March 25, 2022, it was announced that Charlotte Ritchie had joined the cast as a new female lead opposite Penn Badgley, playing the character Kate.
On April 1, 2022, it was announced that 14 new characters were added to the cast. Among those 14 were: Tilly Keeper, Amy Leigh Hickman, Ed Speleers were all cast as series regulars opposite Penn Badgley, with the following: Brad Alexander, Niccy Lin, Aidan Cheng, Stephen Hagan, Ben Wiggins, Eve Austin, Ozioma Whenu, Dario Coates, Sean Pertwee, Alison Pargeter and Adam James cast as recurring characters.
In February 2022, filming it was stated that filming was scheduled to begin in London in mid-March 2022 and run through to July 2022. Filming officially began on March 22, 2022 in the United Kingdom, with John Scott directing. According to ProductionWeekly, filming is slated to take place in Los Angeles. Filming took place at the Royal Holloway University in Engham, England from April 14 until around April 20, 2022.
Filming concluded on August 26, 2022.
•On February 17th, the YouWriters account shared the first draft of episode 1 written by Sera Gamble and Leo Richardson. While the episode title has been blurred out, some have speculated that episode 1 is “Joe Goes to Italy”.
