The Zookeeper's Wife true story confirms that the Zabinskis used the cages to hide fleeing Jews and partisans. They also hid them in the underground pathways connecting the animal cages.

"The Zookeeper's Wife" is a big film that required building a replica of the zoo, adding incredible special effects and working with an assortment of animals. It is a story of selflessness and bravery I had not heard before and it surely inspires. Chastain as Antonina interacts very well with the animals, real or CGI.
