The Underground is a faction in Fortnite: Battle Royale that was first introduced in Chapter 5: Season 1. They are a group of rebels led by Hope opposing the regime of power led by The Society, and want to take down all their leaders. They have several scattered hideouts around the map, located more covertly than the outposts of The Society.
Chapter 5: Season 1
After The Big Bang event, Hope founded The Underground as a literal underground revolution against the elites of the Island, who almost all came together under the aegis of a single prestigious organization known as The Society. They have several installations around the map of varying size, most of which again, are literally underground. Jones and Peely also joined The Underground, however after Peely was kidnapped by The Society for information, Jones went on a personal war against them to save his friend. Over the course of the Takedown Quests, Jones, Hope, and The Looper work together to Eliminate Legion Guards and Elites, Steal Society Medallions, and defeat the Bosses of the Society, which culminate in Jones finally Rescuing Peely from Fencing Fields. These attacks cause the Society's control of the island to begin to falter.
Chapter 5: Season 2
Prior to the beginning of this season, The Underground had severely weakened The Society's forces. Once Valeria had opened Pandora's Box, the Pantheon gods, Zeus and Artemis, hunted the rest of the Society down, leaving the Underground as a success, causing Hope to disband the team until further required. Hope, eventually realizing she just can't sit back and watch power be misused, restores The Underground back into action to stop the wrongdoings of the gods, specifically Zeus.
