The tango is a type of ballroom dance that developed from the Argentine tango. This originated in the working-class port areas of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Montevideo (Uruguay) in the late 1800s. There are flavours of African rhythms, flamenco and the Cuban habanera dance.
This lesson plan aims to teach students about the tango dance. It will begin with an introduction to the historical background and characteristics of the tango. Students will then learn the basic rhythm and dance steps of the tango through demonstration and practice with a partner.
