5/10. Well-intended but clumsy and long-winded. Mack Phillips is happily married with three children. When a family tragedy shatters their carefree existence, Mack becomes bitter and depressed and the family starts to drift apart.

Young ’s Christian-themed novel The Shack has been one of the biggest publishing phenomena of the last decade.
There’s nothing about this unconscionably long movie (it runs a whopping 132 minutes) that suggests anyone involved ever watched it from start to finish. But it looks nice enough, like a Nicholas Sparks adaptation, with lots of flowers and flannel.
