The settlement of Rose Hill was established in the 18th century between the ancient villages of Iffley and Cowley, on the main road between Oxford to London via Henley. Remarkably, a highway stone of 1635, marking this route, survives on the western side of the road (now called ‘Rose Hill’), opposite the junction with Church Cowley Road.
