Feb 9, 2021 · The Paper Brigade: Saving the archives of Jewish Vilna. During the Holocaust, a group of writers and scholars in the Vilna ghetto were tasked by the Nazis with sorting through the city's Jewish archives.
From September 1941 to September 1943, the Nazis forced them to participate in the spoliation of the prestigious Jewish and non-Jewish libraries in the city of Vilnius. For this reason, the ghetto gave them the nickname of “paper brigade”.
