In season one, Ryan dates Marisa, whilst Marisa's mother, Julie, has an affair with Marisa's ex-boyfriend, Luke. Then Julie marries Caleb Cohen, Ryan's step-grandfather, making Marisa, Ryan's aunt. In season two, Ryan hooks up with Lindsey, who turns out to be his stepmother's sister.
