The Mist is a science fiction psychological horror novella by American author Stephen King. First published by Viking Press in 1980 as part of the Dark Forces anthology, an edited version was subsequently included in King's 1985 collection Skeleton Crew .

Was it the Arrowhead Project—the top secret government operation that everyone has noticed but no one quite understands? And what happens when the provisions have run out and you’re forced to make your escape, edging blindly through the dim light?
But the book ends with them still being in the Mist. The movie on the other hand goes a different way. Apparently Frank Darabont had his own idea, which he ran past King and got approval of first. The movie ending is honestly one of the most gut punching and emotionally torturing endings.
