We looked last time at the betrayal of Jesus through a couple of the prophetic Psalms. We looked specifically at the example in the life of David and how that gave us insight into the betrayal that Jesus would face. You may remember the key verse that Jesus Himself quoted and said must be fulfilled:
Psalm 55:13. ESV But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend. CSB But it is you, a man who is my peer, my companion and good friend! NLT Instead, it is you — my equal, my companion and close friend. KJV But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.
The true Christian must expect trials from professed friends, from those with whom he has been united; this will be very painful; but by looking unto Jesus we shall be enabled to bear it. Christ was betrayed by a companion, a disciple, an apostle, who resembled Ahithophel in his crimes and doom.
New Living Translation. Instead, it is you—my equal, my companion and close friend. English Standard Version. But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend. Berean Standard Bible. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion and close friend. King James Bible.
