The Magdalene Sisters, a 2002 film by Peter Mullan, is centred on four young women incarcerated in a Dublin Magdalene laundry from 1964 to 1968. The film is loosely based on and "largely inspired" by the 1998 documentary Sex in a Cold Climate , which documents four survivors' accounts of their experiences in Ireland's Magdalen institutions.
