Plot. In New York City 1900, Dr. John Thackery (Clive Owen) leaves a brothel in the early hours to go back to work in the Knickerbocker Hospital (the Knick). He and his partner, Dr. J. M. Christiansen (Matt Frewer) perform a surgery on a pregnant woman with the help of their staff, deeming it a case of placenta praevia.
