Based on a true story, Grey Owl is the story of Archibald Belaney, an Englishman who emigrated to Canada in 1906, and worked as a trapper, guide and forest ranger. Attempting to preserve ecology, he masquerades as an Ojibway Indian, dons the persona of Grey Owl and pleads to the British Empire about the native land's vanishing wildnerness.
Grey Owl's story is true. In the Thirties, he was living in Northern Canada as a fur trapper and native guide, calling himself a half-breed - his father Scottish, his mother Apache - and penning occasional articles for Country Life.
