The Great American Cowboy is a 1973 documentary film about the sport of rodeo in the United States. It focuses on the battle between two rodeo stars for the world championship: veteran Larry Mahan and newcomer Phil Lyne. The film won the 1974 Academy Award for best documentary feature.
